Apex CAD Solutions was established by Aleck Giles.
Aleck began his career with a full apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering Design, gaining a BTEC HNC and NVQ Level 4 qualification. He then spent approximately eight years designing machinery, primarily for the steel and aluminium industries. During this time Aleck was registered as an Engineering Technician and achieved full membership of the Institution of Engineering Designers in the UK.

He subsequently became CAD Manager at the company where he worked, supporting more than 200 CAD users across three UK sites. In this role, he developed and delivered CAD training courses for AutoCAD Mechanical, Inventor and Solid Edge, while overseeing the company's transition to 3D CAD. He also provided technical support and created numerous bespoke macros and automation tools. As part of a global engineering group, Aleck served as Chairman of the Global CAD Steering Committee.
Aleck later joined Graitec, where he developed extensive expertise in Advance Steel, helping customers improve efficiency and maximise the value of their software investment. His Advance Steel training course became the standard training programme for the UK and was adopted in other countries. Aleck made significant contributions to the configuration that became known as the UK build following Autodesk's acquisition of Advance Steel . He was also actively involved in the suggestion, specification and development of features within Graitec's Advance Steel add-on, originally known as PowerPack and now marketed as Graitec Steel. During this time Aleck was a Gold level Autodesk Certified Instructor.

Maintaining his interest in Mechanical Engineering, Aleck also developed and delivered an Inventor Essentials course that became widely adopted within Graitec's European training programme. More recently, he played a key role in testing the Stairs and Railings add-on for Inventor, now included within the Graitec Steel product range.
Aleck is passionate about helping companies get the most from their CAD systems and continually explores ways to improve workflows, increase productivity and extend software capabilities.
Today, through Apex CAD Solutions, Aleck offers independent CAD consultancy, training, support and development services, giving clients direct access to his extensive industry experience and specialist knowledge.
